Hi all,
Just a note to say that we are now officially off on our Walt Disney World trip, and first trip ever aboard the Disney Cruise Line!
We won't be at our desks for 10 days, and will repsond to all messages upon our return.
We will try to make some small updates where possible - that depends on the availability of Internet access.
If we do make any updates, it is likely to be to Twitter or Facebook, as they are easier to access while mobile, so be sure to follow us on both of those if you don't already, for the latest updates from WDW and the Magic!

Al Lutz Reports Disneyland To Begin New Fantasy Faire In August
Loren

For some reason, I missed this in Al Lutz's recent report on MiceAge. Anyway, it looks like August is the targeted date for construction to begin on the New Fantasy Faire at Disneyland. As we know, Disney announced at the D23 Expo that the Carnation Plaza Gardens will be the new home for Fantasy Faire and the current Princess Fantasy Faire will morph into something else. But, since that announcement, no movement had taken place and most speculated it was because all hands have been on deck at Disney California Adventure. This news sort of confirms these speculations.
This is what Al says in his report:
In late summer the Fantasyland “WonderBra” Theater will also be closed as WDI moves in to remake that space into a more formal set-up with upgraded stage facilities that also mesh better with its Fantasyland surroundings. Late August is also the current timetable for shutting down the Carnation Plaza Gardens area to begin its remake into the newest version of Princess Fantasy Faire. That timing coincides with a similar project out at Walt Disney World, where they’ll be closing their Snow White dark ride to install a smaller and less ambitious version of what Disneyland is getting. But some of the set pieces and interactive technology tricks to be used in the Faire will be shared on both coasts, so it’s a project that is being paired together to shave some costs off both locations.

I don't know if you've seen, but Dan, Jon and I actually got to see a night time performance of Soundsational during an Annual Passholder event Disneyland held.
Dan's pictures are here:

Mine are here:

Dan's are better.
But, I'll be going and hoping to catch at least one performance of Soundsational that evening. So, keep an eye out for more photos.

Character greetings in Epcot and Animal Kingdom in late June 2012

Unfortunately, rare character sightings at the International Gateway at Epcot are so random, since it appears to be the training ground for new character performers. Consequently, you never know if, when, or who may appear there. It appears thar it all depends on what has been going on with the cast hiring and training programs... Unofficial Disney Character Hunting Guide often has really nifty live facebook updates when characters appear there, but you really have to be at Epcot (or in Florida, for that matter), to take advantage of those character sightings.

Weekend Disneyland Resort Character Update - February 12 & 14, 2012 (Bayou Bash & Valentine's Day)

Thanks, Shiva!
Yeah, I think Valentine's Day is the only day you'll see the princes out at Disneyland with the exception of the princes you mentioned (although Naveen is out right now in New Orleans Square during the New Orleans Bayou Bash). Interestingly enough, the Beast has made an appearance on a few occasions this year at Disneyland, but, as you know, he is rarely out. Hopefully, you'll be able to meet him and Prince Eric soon.
As for Pocahontas, I think this friend is the regular friend for Pocahontas. She's not rare anymore to Disneyland, but, she's usually out only on the weekdays when I'm not there. So, it was a great treat to see her when I went on Valentine's Day. And, I agree, she's great. And, she was so nice to do fun Pocahontas poses for me, too.

Awesome report & pictures, Loren! I so want to go to DLR on Valentine's Day! Maybe next year. I had to go to the MNSSHP on my first WDW vacation last year to finally meet most of the princes, since DLR is notorious for almost never having any of them available, with the exceptions of Flynn Rider and Aladdin. I still need to meet Beast and Prince Eric someday. I know Beast is at Epcot in the early afternoons on most days, so it's just a matter of waiting in the line for him. Prince Eric is known to appear in the Adventurland Veranda with Ariel, but somehow I missed them last October. In any case, what a treat to see them all in the same place at DLR!
Oh, and I've met this particular "friend" of Pocahontas before! In fact, she is the first Pocahontas I have ever met. She's great! When I met her last summer, she was walking through the back of Frontierland looking for Meeko. Most of the park guests were looking at her like she was nuts. Don't they know who Pocahontas is anymore? After all, unless it's the Halloween ticketed event, adults cannot wear costumes, so obviously she is a character performer. Oh well, their loss was my gain. Few people mustered up the courage to approach her to meet with her. edited by Shiva on 2/21/2012

Hi Mike, great pic! EPCOT tends to be quite difficult to predict for characters, but the best times are actually off peak, usually. This is when the character friends get trained, as it is less busy. The early part of the year, before summer, is normally best. If you're ever able to get to Disneyland in CA, Brer Fox does appear more regularly there in Critter Country (and actually when we were there in October, he was on Main Street too!).

Leap Day events announced, DCA to get some new characters and more!
Peter Pan's Shadow

Hi all,
Sorry it has been a few days since our last update, but we have been very busy preparing for WDW and the Disney Cruise in just a couple of days time! Very exciting!
Anyway, here's what we have from the last few days...
In California, Loren has been busy keeping us updated with all the latest happenings.
Be sure to check out his updates from the Blue Bayou Bash and Valentine's Day here, the launch of the brand new DCA show 'Minnie's Fly Girls' here (which features talking Minnie!), and some cool news about atmosphere characters to appear on the new Buena Vista Street when it opens (think Citizens of Hollywood and Main Street at WDW!).
Loren also reported that there is a chance of some rare characters at DL's Leap Day event. I have to admit that I have been so busy I haven't had chance to check properly, but as far as I know, nothing else has been announced yet for DL, and everything so far is just rumour.
On the other hand, over in Florida, WDW announced the schedule for their Leap Day event. As was expected, there is nothing special about the announced programme. Extra character entertainment includes the Main Street Electrical Parade, extended times for the the regular character meet 'n' greets and the Frontierland Hoedown in the middle if the night.
We have heard form a few different sources across the Internet that some other random characters may appear. So far nothing seems to be confirmed but a few different websites are reporting everything from Jack Sparrow, the Seven Dwarfs and Mickey and Minnie in their PJs. Of course there is no official word on any of this, and anything can change last minute. Nobody will know for sure until they are in the park sadly!
We'd love to hear from you if you are going to be there. Let us know what characters you got to meet. Just hit the Discuss button at the bottom of this article (if you're on the article page)!
Disneyland Paris held their annual meeting, and they had a sneak preview of the brand new outfits for the VIPs during the 20th anniversary. You can check out the video here, which also includes the Three Good Fairies, the Blue Fairy and Merlin all dancing along to the brand new Parade song!
Finally, this video was released for DLP's 20th anniversary, and is a "brief history" of the Resort's 20 magical years. It includes of course some very interesting character moments!
Ok, that's all for now,
Dan.

I was just reading Al Lutz's recent column on MiceAge]click here where he reported on various updates to Disney California Adventure's upcoming Buena Vista Street. Among the things he reported was that TDA will soon be auditioning for the "Citizens of Buena Vista Street," which will be roaming streetmosphere characters akin to the "Citizens of Hollywood" at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida. Again, while nothing is set in stone until Disney says so, this news brings me great joy!
Here's what he says in his report:
TDA’s Entertainment Department will soon be auditioning actors and actresses to be the first group of the “Citizens of Buena Vista Street”, a diverse group of 1920’s Southern California characters who will wander the street and DCA’s entrance area interacting with the tourists. Taking inspiration more from the popular “Citizens of Hollywood” streetmosphere performers at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the citizens of Buena Vista Street will stroll the sidewalks and help bring the 1920’s vibe to life in this new land. It’s another late addition, but something that the TDA team realized was needed for the opening summer regardless of the budget overrun.
Al also reports that a Newsboy show will be taking place on Buena Vista Street. Concept art for this show had been seen at the Blue Sky Cellar, but it has seen disappeared. So, nobody knew the future of the show or if this was an early concept. So, it will be exciting to see this show. But, again, all of this is just rumor until Disney announces it.

Hi Rodny, Where are you trying to post the picture from? If it is already on a photosharing website, such as Flickr, you should just be able to copy and paste the URL into the image link box in the text editor. Let us know where you are trying to post from and we can help more
