So, everyone knows that Disneyland has not been one to bring out rare characters for some reason. But, every so often, they conduct trainings for future friends of characters or an event will take place where we'll see characters we don't normally get to see roaming the park. I thought it would be fun to start a topic for people to share photos they might get of some of these rarer sightings at the Disneyland Resort.
To jump start this topic, I submit pictures I caught of Suzy and Perla who were doing a meet-and-greet near Central Plaza today (Sunday, February 27, 2011). Sadly, I didn't get to get pictures WITH them because it seemed like they were out because Disneyland was training "friends" of characters today and, it seems, whenever they do this, the characters don't have hosts with them. Without hosts, character meet-and-greets tend to get very chaotic with parents trying to throw their kids in front of you. And, unfortunately, I couldn't get anybody to take a picture of me...but, was glad to have actually gotten to meet them finally!

I don't mind not having hosts. It takes more concentration though.
However Don Karnage, Prince John, The Country Bears, and a few other rarities were out on Feb. 25. I mean Don Karnage?? My god, I would have died. I wish I had been there instead of aimlessly roaming around campus between classes... edited by Alex on 2/28/2011

I'm not only kicking myself about Don Karnage, but Prince John as well. I've really wanted to meet him myself. Alex, do you know who else was out?

No idea. I saw only the aforementioned ones on a friend's facebook, so I'm not sure who else was around that day.

We heard that Lilo, Stitch and the Tweedles were out too. Not too uncommon overall, but L&S in Disneyland Park maybe are. (L&S are normally in DCA, right?)

I was in the park yesterday (Saturday, April 9, 2011) and spotted Honest John doing a meet-and-greet in front of the Disney Gallery. I have not seen Honest John in the park in about three years. A rare sighting indeed!

Good to hear you got pics with the Br'ers!
I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Honest John only did one set that day.

Haha actually, I didn't even get any pics. I just talked a little bit. Fox's animation tends to be like... god-tier, so it's usually a solid 2 way conversation. Really cool stuff. edited by Alex on 4/11/2011

Great to hear that you got to meet the Br'ers! Now I'm curious...why isn't Br'er Rabbit ever out with them! I understand that in the early days he was a very short character who was hard to find friends for, but now that he has been redesigned for around Mickey-height friends, why isn't he ever around! He is the protagonist of his film!

I want to know the answer to this question, too. I would really love them to bring Bre'r Rabbit to Disneyland. Its always curious as to why certain characters aren't there even though there's almost a complete unit. Piglet is another example. They have Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Rabbit. Piglet would make sense, but he never ever comes out either. Anyway, I'd be really curious to find out why, too.

I have to ask the same question for Jaq and Gus...why weren't they redesigned and Perla and Suzy were? Perla and Suzy were relative unknowns until Jaq and Gus disappeared and they started appearing all over the place! Jaq and Gus need to be brought out! Though, their friends' way of viewing the world is very difficult and extremely obvious, I will admit.
What about Robin Hood and Little John! Where have they been all this time? While Prince John, Sheriff of Nottingham, and Friar Tuck appear all over the place? And why is Frollo the only member of the Hunchback gang ever seen?
So many illogical things happening in the character world. Hopefully one day all of the fairies will be face, the talking heads will appear in all shows and parades, etc...

Esmerelda and Clopin were out for Character Fan Days that they had here a couple of months ago. It was absolutely wonderful to see them with Frollo, although, I'd love if they brought Quasimodo out. And Phoebus!

At Disneyland, I think all the fairies are face characters. The Fairy Godmother has been a face character for awhile and Flora, Fauna and Merryweather come out every so often as face characters. The Blue Fairy hasn't been out for a long time, but she's also face characters. And, of course, the Pixie Hollow fairies are all face characters, too.
As for talking head characters, I'm not sure how I feel about them. There's something very charming about meeting Mickey and gang and having them do pantomime. And, for some reason, with particularly the Mickey and Minnie costumes, they look neckless and toothless. I realize they don't have teeth, but, it just makes them look like they're gumming when they talk. So, for me, the jury is still out about the talking characters.

Jaq and Gus were out at Disneyland Paris for Valentine's last year. Suzy and Perla are out fairly often at DLP including at Auberge de Cendrillon, and in the Magic Kingdom at WDW at Cinderella's Royal Table. Frollo is aways out and about at DLP. Clopin and Esmeralda make sporadic appearances at DLP, and can usually be found at DLP's Halloween Parties, too. Hunchback was out for Valentine's the last two years also. Little John hasn't been seen in years, but the other Robin Hood characters (Robin, Friar, Prince John and Sheriff) can all be found regularly at DLP. Brer Rabbit makes rare appearances at DLP and WDW, but not very often. Looks like you guys need to come to DLP!
