A Tribute to Expo Hall
disneydan  Monday, May 30, 2011 11:42:34 PM
Earlier last month Exposition Hall (aka Expo Hall) closed it's doors for a major overhaul and reopened a little while later as Town Square Theater.
Since park opening in 1971 Expo Hall has provided inquisitive Guests with the opportunity to sit out of the intense Florida heat and watch some classic Disney cartoons on the big screen. Hidden away behind the photo centre and not well known, it was one last hidden gem in the park.

As well as being a theatre the area featured some themed backdrops for photo opportunities.

From time to time your favourite Disney friends would make appearances inside the theatre, especially when the weather was bad.

Meeting Winnie the Pooh and Tigger

Meeting Pinocchio

Now, as Town Square Theater you can still meet you favourite Disney friends, but in a more structured environment with lines.

Meeting Mickey and Minnie Mouse in their new home

Belle, Tiana and Cinderella

Princess Aurora

The theatre itself is no longer there sadly and no longer provides respite from the crowds and heat. Expo Hall will be missed by those that knew its hidden secrets.
Now Town Square Theater is advertised on the park maps it attracts lots of Guests who want to meet Mickey, Minnie and the Princesses.

It still has some neat features, including a brand new store, although considering the place has been practically rebuilt, the queue areas lack that touch of magic that Disney normally inject into their parks.

The new store looks really cool...

But the entrance to the Character lines are not that thrilling...

Then you enter Mickey's line and it goes downhill!

Once you're done with Mickey, go back round to meet the Princesses, and, well, see for yourself how dire the queue there is!!

Once the Princesses move out in the not too distant future to their new home in Fantasyland, I am curious to see what happens with their current space. Hopefully Disney will put it to good use and some neat characters will start appearing there, like they used to appear in Toontown before the Fairies moved in.
Only time will tell, but for now let us remember the good times at Expo Hall and welcome in fresh new experiences at Town Square Theater - even if the queue is awful!

Dan.
